What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion skin resurfacing is performed with a special handpiece that sprays tiny crystals across your facial skin for gentle abrasion and polishing.  The crystals remove lifeless, sun damaged, dead and flaking skin cells to uncover your silky new skin just below the surface.  At the same time we polish and resurface your skin, the handpiece gently vacuums away the crystals and dead skin.  We carefully exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin to reduce wrinkles and correct pigmentation and other fine imperfections.  This popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure also stimulates the production of fresh skin cells and collagen for softer, more supple skin.

What does microdermabrasion treatment feel like?

Because the procedure is noninvasive and does not wound your skin’s surface, there is virtually no discomfort during or after microdermabrasion.  You may feel a slight stinging sensation during treatment, however, anesthesia is not necessary.  After treatment, we clean your skin to remove any remaining crystals.  Then after drying, we’ll apply a special healing moisturizer.

How long does the treatment take?

Typically, microdermabrasion treatments for your face take between 30-60 minutes.  If you want microdermabrasion on your neck or other parts of your body, more time will be needed.  It takes multiple treatments to melt away your skin’s imperfections, followed by less frequent maintenance visits.  For maximum results, you may need as many as 12 initial treatments.  Treatments are spaced from two to three weeks apart to allow your skin to recover.  We closely evaluate your progress after each microdermabrasion procedure.

What about aftercare?

Microdermabrasion treatment may cause your skin to become more sensitive to the sun.  take precautions to protect your skin from exposure by wearing sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection of 15 or higher.  Depending on your individual case, we may recommend periodic repeat treatments after your initial regimen is completed.  For quality skin care we recommend specific products to enhance your appearance.
