Botox is a purified protein that is injected into the muscles of the face to cause weakening of those treated muscles. If the muscle is weak, it cannot make the muscle movement. If the movement cannot be made, then the wrinkle cannot form. Most women require 20-30 units between their brow—for smoothing of the glabella crease and lift of the mid-brow. 9-11 units is generally an “airbrushing” to the forehead for most women. It softens the lines made by the frontalis muscle but allows animation and not a complete frozen look . 8-10 units of Botox to the lateral aspect of each eye may be used to weaken the muscles that create the “crows feet.” Additionally, small amounts of Botox can lift the corners of the mouth, smooth the fine lines above the lip and even lift the upper lip, generally in women, giving a slight lip augmentation and a place to but their lipstick.
Botox is frequently used by men to soften the aging process. Often the facial muscle mass of men is stronger than in women and may require slightly increased doses for the same treatment areas.
The injections of Botox takes only a few minutes and is relatively pain free, but most certainly, tolerable. The results of Botox injections will be visible within 2-4 days or up to 1 week. The results will genereally last 3 ½ to 4 ½ months. There is no down time, rare bruising and both men and women are generally very pleased with the results.

Juvederm is an injectable gel hylarunic acid. We have hylarunic acid in our bodies naturally. In this iinjectable form (mixed with lidocaine for comfort), it pulls water into the tissue and lifts out the lines around the mouth, under the eyes and gives volume to the cheeks. Juvederm is beautiful in the lips, adding just enough volume without the “overdone” look. Patient are usually very pleased for 6-9 months and may last up to a year before Juvederm is desired again. Most patient tolerate the procedure with only topical numbing medication applied to the skin prior to the injections, but a modified dental block can be preformed for additional patient comfort.

Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite. What this means in English is that the molecule is a little larger, and it is injected deeper into the tissue to give greater lift to deep creases and facial folds. If is a great product in the mid-face to give volume to the cheeks. It can also be used to lift the nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette creases (the lines from the corners of the mouth straight down to the jaw line—like a marionette puppet). Radiesse is not used in the lips or right around the mouth. Because of its large molecule size, it can clump. However, Juvederm can be used in combination with Radiesse for deeper lift and superficial softening of fine lines and lip volume.

Latisse is an prescriptive eyelash growth formula that increased the length of the lashes as well as tends to darken and thicken lashes. Be patient, however. It will take about 9-12 weeks to really see a difference. The product is usually applied at night in the same way you would apply eyeliner to the upper lid only. There may be some initial itching which is usually mild and resolves without treatment. It also may cause a slight darkening of the lid margin—this is usually not a problem because it is where you would normally color the lash line with eyeliner. No pigment changes to the iris have been reported with the proper use of Latisse for cosmetic lash growth. The bottle will last about 3 month with nightly application. After 3 months, most Latisse users usually decrease application to 3-4 times a week so the lashes don’t grow too long!!!
